The intern shall support UNICEF in fulfilling its mission to ensure the health and well-being of every child. Daily responsibilities of the intern will depend on the individual’s background and duties may include but are not limited to assisting with developing and coordinating the UNICEF Health’s social media accounts for daily postings.

Under the primary supervision of the Sr. Advisor Partnerships, the Social Media Intern’s duties will include the following: 

  • Plan, create, and curate social media content on a daily basis, maintain and update weekly editorial calendars, collect and collate multimedia information from different departments; –
  • Monitor various sources for new content and information about what is happening in and around the UN related to child, adolescent and maternal health any given week; –
  • Create visuals, quote cards and other materials as requested using online tools (such as Canva or Adobe Photoshop); –
  • Attend press conferences and events to gather quotes, take photos and videos which can be used in social media posts; –
  • Draft posts for Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn; –
  • Research trends and posts from partners and suggest retweets/reposts; monitor the social media accounts for followers’ comments and questions, –

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

Meet one of the following requirements:

  1. be enrolled in, or have completed within the past 2 years, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); 
  2. be enrolled in, or have completed within the past 2 years, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).

Interested candidates must be pursuing or pursued their degree in areas related to this Job Opening such as, Public Health, Public Policy, Communications or in related fields.

In addition, interested candidates must: 

  • Be computer literate in standard software applications including MS Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point); 
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and, 
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. 
  • Language – English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.

Recommended candidate will be asked to provide the following documents: 

  • Letter of verification from the college or university that the intern is currently enrolled in an graduate or undergraduate school. It should also state the expected graduation date. Recent graduates are allowed until 2 years after degree completion. 
  • Copy of their most recent official transcript showing excellent academic performance 
  • Copy of Identification Card (ID) 
  • One letter of signed recommendation on letterhead or from professional email address 
  • Certification of health insurance coverage for the full duration of the internship

Benefits to Intern: In accordance to UNICEF’s guidelines, interns will be paid a stipend. The intern will gain deeper understanding of UNICEF’s Global Health Programme 2022-25, and the programme’s global communication and advocacy efforts.
