Qualifying for an Internship
All interns must meet the following educational and other eligibility requirements:
Educational requirements
- Academic background in Demography, Geography, Data Sciences, Public Health, or Environmental Science; and
- Be enrolled in a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent) and have completed one full academic year.
Other eligibility requirements
- Demonstrate interest in the field of development, particularly on the issue of sexual and reproductive health and gender issues;
- Strong analytical skills and experience with data analysis tools (e.g., SPSS, R, GIS/Spatial analysis);
- Excellent research and writing skills;
- Demonstrate written and spoken proficiency in Indonesian and English;
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively; and
- Demonstrate ability to adapt to new environments and to establish and maintain good working relations with individuals of different cultural backgrounds.

The Position:
Under the direct supervision of the Population Data Analyst and advisory from the Programme Specialist of the Population and Development (PD Unit) of UNFPA Indonesia Country Office, the intern will support the team in the areas of Population data analysis, including:
- Identifying and analyze existing literature and data relevant to show linkages between climate change, Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH), and Gender-based Violence (GBV), particularly in Indonesia context;
- Assessing specific impacts of climate change on SRH services and the vulnerability of women and girls to GBV;
- Generating a comprehensive summary report highlighting key findings, gaps in knowledge, and potential recommendations for UNFPA Indonesia programme design.
A work-plan with achievements for the duration of the Internship and learning opportunities will be agreed upon. Periodic progress meetings will lead to a beneficial environment for the Intern enhancing her/his skills and capacity in areas related to UNFPA’s mandate.
You would be responsible for:
- Conduct a thorough literature review on climate change, SRH, and GBV in Indonesia.
- Identify and analyze relevant data from government agencies, research institutions, and UN organizations.
- Apply data analysis skills to synthesize findings from various sources.
- Prepare a well-structured and informative report summarizing key findings, including:
- The different ways climate change impacts SRH access and outcomes.
- How climate change increases the risk of GBV.
- Existing data gaps and areas require further research.
- Potential recommendations for UNFPA Indonesia’s work on SRH, GBV, and climate change.

Your Experiences
- Some experience in working with development agencies, including in volunteer capacity.
- Fluency in English. Knowledge of other languages is an asset.
- Experience in conducting evaluation for a project is an asset.
- Knowledge in gender and social inclusion is an asset.
- Strong analytical and writing skills.
- Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds.
