FAO Is Hiring Locust Management Specialists (Various topics) 2025.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is excited to announce a call for applications for Locust Management Specialists for the year 2025. As part of our commitment to combating locust infestations and ensuring food security, we are seeking experts in various topics related to locust management, including but not limited to ecology, pest control, monitoring, and impact assessment.

Locust outbreaks pose significant threats to agricultural production and livelihoods, particularly in vulnerable regions. The FAO is dedicated to providing effective solutions and strategies to mitigate these threats, and we invite qualified professionals to join our team in this critical endeavor.

If you have a strong background in entomology, agricultural sciences, or related fields, and are passionate about contributing to sustainable agricultural practices and food security, we encourage you to apply. Your expertise will be vital in developing innovative approaches to locust management and supporting communities affected by these challenges.

Minimum Requirements

•    University degree in in agriculture/agronomy, entomology or plant protection with emphasis on migratory plant pests; pest monitoring and early warning systems; or any related field to the various above listed tasks;


•    A minimum of two years of relevant experience (for category C) or five years (for category B) in one or more of the above
listed locust management areas, including in developing countries;
•    Working knowledge of Arabic, English or French (C Level).

Technical/Functional Skills 

•    Work experience in more than one location or area of work
•    Extent and relevance of experience in locust bio-ecology, management and control
•    Extent and relevance of experience in implementing locust projects


•    Familiarity with Geographical Information Systems
•    Previous working experience with FAO or other Locust control organizations or commissions may be considered an asset


Selection Criteria
 
•    Limited knowledge of one of the other three Chinese, Russian, Spanish (B Level) is considered an asset.
