The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) is inviting qualified and committed professionals to apply for the position of Data Collection and Reporting Support Officer under a Daily Paid Assignment in Damascus, Syria. With over 30,000 personnel, UNRWA is the largest UN operation in the Middle East, delivering essential services including education, healthcare, social support, microfinance, camp improvement, and emergency assistance. This position contributes directly to strengthening the Agency’s capacity to deliver data-driven humanitarian interventions.
Key Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader (P-4), the Data Collection and Reporting Support Officer will support protection operations through data management, analysis, and reporting. Key duties include:
1. Project Monitoring and Coordination – 25%
The officer will support detailed monitoring and project management activities related to the Protection Programme. This includes collaborating with UNRWA Headquarters to ensure that program databases meet operational requirements.
2. Data Analysis, Compilation, and Reporting – 25%
Responsibilities include analyzing protection data for major reports such as the monthly snapshot, monthly summary, Emergency Appeal indicators, and strategic planning submissions. The officer will also collect best practices and document lessons learned.
3. Business Process Improvement – 15%
The role involves engaging with end users to support process enhancements that boost performance, data transparency, and evidence-based decision-making. This includes merging data streams to produce comprehensive profiles.
4. Reporting on Assessments and Humanitarian Violations – 15%
The officer will prepare reports detailing integrated assessments and document violations of humanitarian principles within UNRWA installations.
5. Monitoring Protection Programme Data – 10%
The officer will track and analyze trends and respond to ad-hoc data requests from internal and external stakeholders.

6. Support to Report Design and Implementation – 5%
Assisting in designing, creating, and maintaining various reports supporting the Protection Team.
7. Other Assigned Duties – 5%
Additional tasks may be assigned based on organizational needs.
Required Competencies
Successful candidates should possess:
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to draft/edit documents in English and Arabic
- Solid technical expertise in presenting data clearly
- Excellent planning, organization, and multitasking abilities
- Capacity to work under pressure and within a team
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office
- (Desirable) Knowledge of Protection Information Management and understanding of UNRWA operations
Education, Language, and Qualifications
Applicants must hold a university degree in social sciences, international relations, political affairs, data management, or a related field. English proficiency at UN Level II is required across reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
Contract Details
This is a Daily Paid Assignment (Grade 14) for up to three months, with the possibility of extension depending on performance, funding, and operational needs. The compensation rate is 35.97 USD per day, with one day of annual leave and one day of sick leave per completed month.
Only candidates residing in Syria and within commuting distance of Damascus are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to registered Palestine refugees and candidates belonging to underrepresented genders.
